How do I get Word to underline spelling errors?

Even though my proofing settings are set to check and mark spelling errors,
and my language option is similarly set, Word still won't underline spelling
errors. And when I get it to check the entire document, it doesn't find
errors, but says all is well. What else might be the problem?

If you're positive its a spelling error, one other possibility would be that
you have inaccurate data in your CUSTOM.DIC file. You may need to open this
file (usually in notebook) and see if someone has inadvertantly added a
misspelled word to your dictionary.

It does not pertain to a particular word - I've entered a number of different
spelling errors, and they are not highlighted. They used to be and now
they're not.
