Check for Updates Error

I am using windows 2000 and installed microsift defender. When I click on the
Check for Updates button getting error as follows:

Windows defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80040154 Class not
registered.

Any help wil be appreciated.

Indeed they did, but that thread does not contain a resolution to the issue,
does it?

If you go to Windows Update, and do an express scan, and apply all offered
updates, does that help?

my error is slightly different, ox80072ee2, but with the same result: it
doesn't connect to be able to upgrade.

An express scan of windows update gives me the same error!?!?!?
