Check for new definitions

I get the message that definitions haven't been updated in 119 days after
just loading Windows Defender (Beta 2).

The error I receive when I click on "Check Now" button is:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x8024002b

I get the same error message on more than one PC running XP.

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
adinistratºr.

This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an admin.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Engel-
By going to Windows Update, getting and applying high-priority
updates, the "Definition Update 1.14.1464.7 for BETA Windows Defender
(KB915597)" came up and I loaded it successfully. This worked on two PCs.

So, if I understand you correctly, had I logged in as "admin" instead of
myself with admin privilidges, this would have loaded when I initially
downloaded Defender?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

If that's the base of all my problems updating that would be pretty shabby.
How many home users EVER log in as Admin? So far, I've only able to update
once by going into control panel and using 'add/remove programs' and updating
Defender. It only worked once.
