It appears i have a copy of xp that can no longer be
updated using Windows Update as the code appreas to be
invalid, is there anyway of chaging the code without
completely having to reinstall XP?

Thanks

David

That would depend on whether you are either:

1. A good enough pirate to "invent" a new code, or

2. You are willing to purchase a new copy of XP. In order to avoid a
reinstall, you would have to be sure to obtain the same "type" of XP that is
on your machine: OEM, Upgrade, Retail; Home vs Pro. If you do no get an
exact match, the Product Key that comes with your new disk will not activate
what is on your machine at the moment, and you will have to do an Upgrade
Install.

Good enough? Invent? All you need is a windows xp key generator, but you
didn't hear that from me. ;o)

First: Is the XP Licence code a legit code? If not, purchase a Windows XP
retail pack.

Are you trying to install Service Pack 1 and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid

You need to purchase and use a legitimate full retail copy of
WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CD and Product Key.

Remember, you should also report whomever sold you the pirated
software to the pertinent law enforcement agencies; you've been
defrauded.

Actually, I've seen this on many workstations installed for testing
using the MSDN Universal activation keys provided to the MS Certified
Partners. After 5 installs in the development center, when the SP1 came
out, after not having more than 5 installs, the same message hit us. We
went to the MS site for keys and found the keys had changed - had to
reinstall on top of the old XP Prof and all was well - the reinstall
didn't change anything but they key.

It would have been nice if there was a way to Activate or to change the
key without the reinstall. Even the phone support people couldn't do it
without a reinstall.
