Hi there,

A user has asked me to change her use log on name
following her marriage. The last time I changed a user
log on name for a different user she couldn't access some
of her folders, also she couldn't even access her own
mailbox. Is there anyway I can change the log on name
without bumping into any of these problems?

Thank you in advanced.

If I didn't answer this same question last night, I answered a very similar
one ;-)

What you experienced in the past was an unlucky coincidence. The user
account's access, etc. is all based on it's SID - not any of the user
account object's attributes. Therefore it's completely fine to change the
username, surname, UPN, logonname, etc. as these are all attributes of an
object, and Windows only sees that object in the form of it's SID.

Renaming's not generally a problem. The only thing you'll find that may
seem odd is that the user's profile folder will retain its old name on any
workstation where the user has logged it. This is because the workstation
does a SID to directory mapping between locally-stored profiles and user
accounts.
