User Logon name

A user has asked me to change her User Logon name
following her marriage. We are running Windows 2000
domain. The last time I tried to change a user Logon
name that user couldn't get into her folders and I have
had to create a brand new profile. Could you please tell
me how I can change the User Logon name without bumping
into any problems?

Thank you in advanced.

I would think that what you experienced in the past was just an unlucky
coincidence. You can change all of the attributes of a user and rename that
user without any adverse effects to folder access, etc. as permissions and
the like use the user accounts SID not logon name.

Correct.

I would simply open up the ADUC MMC and go to her account, right click and
select 'Rename'. Then change that lastname from 'Smith' to 'Jones'. I
would also suggest that you open up Outlook and make sure that the name is
changed in there ( in the Outlook Today - [Mailbox - Nora Jones ] area ).
It should but does not always and users freak out over this!

As Paul stated, you are simply changing an attribute to this account. The
SID is what is used for permissions and access, etc. Changing one - or
all - of the attributes does not affect the SID.

HTH,

Cary
