Changing the sound for "New Mail".

A

Andy I.

Hi,

I'm trying to change the sound to announce the arrival of "New Mail". This
worked with no problem in WIN 98SE:
CONTROL PANEL | SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES | SOUNDS | PROGRAM EVENTS | NEW MAIL
| BROWSE to required audio file and install it | check by clicking "play
sound" arrow, and the required sound (a Monty Python sound clip) plays, but
when receiving "New Mail" the old original beep plays. Reboot doesn't help.

Help!

Thanks
Andy I.

Hi "Dolphin",

It's a .wav file.

Works fine here, Andy. <w>

In what folder is the WAV file located?

I don't believe it! Talk about "Smoke & Mirrors"!! In the list of
"Sounds", NEW MAIL, which I selected, apparently
doesn't mean "New Mail", as I understand it. I noticed, further up the
list, NEW MAIL NOTIFICATION. *That* works!

D***!

Hi Robear.
It's in CONTROL PANEL | SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES | SOUNDS | PROGRAM EVENTS |
NEW MAIL .

Andy I. (WinXP SP2 Home)

| Interesting.
|
| Was "New Mail" listed under the Windows heading, Andy? I don't see it in
| WinXP SP2 Home.

Yes, but is it under CONTROL PANEL | SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES | SOUNDS |
PROGRAM EVENTS | WINDOWS <=this heading?

I think you may have another Sound Scheme installed besides the Windows
Default, yes?

He could even be looking under CONTROL PANEL | SOUNDS & AUDIO DEVICES
| SOUNDS |PROGRAM EVENTS | Windows Messenger
There is a New Mail item there.

Hi Alan.

You're right! "He" is. "He" scrolled down the list too fast, failing to
notice the headings:WINDOWS, NET MEETING, WINDOWS EXPLORER, WINDOWS
MESSENGER................. thought it was all for WINDOWS, tho' I did feel
that some of the options seemed a little "funny" for WINDOWS.

Brilliant detective work, Alan......
Thanks.
