Changing Startup Menu

When I use msconfig and uncheck items in Startup Menu,
after restart I get a message from Configuration Utility
that since I changed Startup I have booted in diagnostic
mode and that I should select normal mode and undo my
changes. I don't get it, I don't want to undo them, I
just want the system to do what I told it to do. What's
up with this?

Rather than using Msconfig, you may have better luck going into Taskbar and
Start Menu Properties, choosing Customize... for your Start Menu and then on
the Advanced tab turn off the items you do not want.

Michael: Your method has nothing to do with the items that are found under
the startup tab in msconfig, whereby they start at boot.

That tool's original intention was to make temporary changes for trouble
shooting. So if you have used it (even taking a look and exiting with
OK) it pops up this message next boot as a reminder. Just check the
'don't show again' and Exit, and you will not get the message again,
until next time (even if that is putting things back)
