Changing screen resolution in XP Compatibility mode to 800x600

Is there a way I can change the resolution in XP Compatibility mode
from 640x480 to 800x600? Maybe some sort of patch? Most kids' games
here run on 800x600, and we're forced to run the computers at that
resolution, since some games just use up 800x600 pixels and leave the
rest of the screen black. I'd like to get us up to a higher res, and
just have the games run at 800x600. Thanks.

have you tried "unchecking" the Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution on
the compatibility tab?

It's not checked....My point was this. I have a computer running at
1280x1024. I have a game, that only works on 800x600, nothing else.
Instead of manually switching resolutions each time, I'm wondering if
there's a way to change the option in compatibility mode from 640x480
to 800x600, so when I check it, it'll temporarily change the resolution
to 800x600 while the game is running.

You may be able to use some 3rd party program like Multi-Res to do the
switching for you.

Oh, ok. I suppose third party works...I was just hoping there would be
something built into windows instead.

Thanks.

Windows based programs don't require that "Windows" changes it
resolution. Will the game run in a 800x600 window?
