Changing from English to Spanish version

T

Tim

Hi;

I've just bought a nice new computer, with a nice new copy of XP Home on it,
fully licensed. Trouble is, it's for my niece, who speaks no English, so I
want to put a Spanish version of XP Home on it for her.

Is there any cheap way of doing this; or is my nice licensed copy of XP Home
just going to be wasted?

Tim;
You cannot change the language of Windows XP.
Do you have a CD?
What kind? Recovery, generic OEM etc?

Contact the seller and see if you can trade Windows XP CDs.
You will probably need to buy Windows XP in English.

It's a Dell reinstallation CD; so basically what I've got is a valid license
number; but I've paid Microsoft for the license, and being "green", I'd hate
to see it just thrown away.

Tim;
The only way I know is if you can get a Dell installation CD in Spanish.
If you haven't tried Dell, call them.
If you already have, try again, perhaps you can get someone at Dell able to
help.
since it is OEM, Microsoft can not help.

A slight chance is with a generic OEM CD in Spanish.
The key should work.
Problem is with the recent changes with activation, I do not think Microsoft
will activate with the key on the side of the computer.

Thanks, Jupiter. It's for an 8 year old child, so I want to be very sure
she's not going to have any trouble with it! Maybe I'll just cut my losses
and pick up a spanish oem version off ebay; and install that over the top.
Although, with prices averaging 70 euros, and an original in the shops for
98, there's not much saving.

You've already received some good answers so let me just add one idea
to ponder.....

When you purchase a Spanish version of XP and install it, why not
consider installing it as a dual boot with the English version? Then
your niece (who is probably learning English in school anyway) will
have the ability to use the machine in both Spanish and English.
Might be a good learning experience for her.

Unfortunately, if you want a Spanish version, the English version
you have won't help you. And since you have an OEM version, you
can't even transfer it to another computer.

Thanks CS - that's a seriously good thought...............

Now - can someone confirm that XP Home will install to a dual boot?
