Spanish XP on HP

I have a HP PC with a Spanish OEM edition of XP HOME pre installed. I also
have the generic HP OEM XP HOME installation discs (English version) for a
similar HP machine. Can I install the English version on the Spanish PC and
use the XP Product Key that is on the side of the spanish machine? The end
result that the machine has a english version and not a spanish version
installed. I am aware of all the rules about 1x XP = 1x PC only etc. The
resulting version would have the original product key specific to that
machine and not used elsewhere...? What I am really asking is - is the HP
OEM XP Product Key language specific?

It's BIOS specific. The only thing you can do is clean install a retail
or generic OEM copy on it, although you never know so try it and see
what happens :) Try the product key for the Spanish version. If that
doesn't work, try the product key for the English version. I would bet
that, if it works, the English version product key will be the winner.

Hmmm. Perhaps Carey merely extends the OP the courtesy of presuming he/she
knows how to contact the hardware
manufacturer and/or knows how to use Google. :)

Good luck! I contacted them once and they informed me that because I had
used the coupon that came with the new machine to upgrade from Win98 to
WinMe, they would not give me any support. Try my suggestions and save
yourself the trouble of contacting a company that probably won't help you.

I've usually had very good luck with HP support, for what it's worth.

I forgot to mention that the DVD reader didn't work on that machine and
they wouldn't help me with that either, saying the warranty was breached
due to my upgrading to Me. I will never, ever, buy an HP/Compaq product
again.

Their servers are very good, and although I haven't used their desktops for
a long time, the Kayaks were rockin'. I've never used one of their
consumer-grade desktops - even with Dell, I always go for Optiplex rather
than Dimension.

Am currently test-driving some IBM desktops at a client and have been pretty
pleased with them so far - they've got very competitive pricing at the
moment from what I can tell.

No, Carey likes to answer questions for the sake of answering even when
he doesn't _have_ a real answer. It's probably the only way he can keep
his MVP tag.
