changing file type jpeg to a jpg

hello,

i am on windows xp. i was trying to upload a picture onto a public board but it would not allow me to because they would only accept ".JPG" files. i have tried to save a picture as a ".JPG" file but the file type still says JPEG. also, when i am saving a photo in paint, the drop down box under "Save as type:" it says JPEG(*.JPG,*.JPE....) but i would like to save it as a jpg, not a jpeg. If you know a way to solve my problem please answer asap

Regards.

There are easy ways to fix this. Alfter you asve the
file as .jpeg you can either do 2 things.
The first is to look at the file in either through
windows explorer or through the my computer. Then you
have to rename the file. To do so you must be able to see
the file extensions. (Click on START ---> Control Panel -
-->Appearance & Themes ---> Folder Options. Choose the
view tab on the pop up box. Look for the line that says -
Hide file extesions for known file types - and uncheck
the box beside it. Ckick OK. Now chose the file and
rename it by removing the e from jpeg. It will as you a
question just say yes.
The second method is nicer because you get a viewing
program to view the pictures and is alot better than the
picture & fax viewer that comes with windows. You have
to download a program like Infran View (freeware) or
ACDSee (shareware with limitations) both allow you to
convert files. With these programs you just select
the .jpeg file and tell the software to convert it to
Jpeg but they save it as .jpg .

Have fun.

JPEG is the full name of the format (by the joint Photographic Experts
Group) and is the same whether the extension is any of those. Just be
sure that Folder Options - View does not hide extensions, and rename to
make the extension .JPG
