Changing Default Text Editor For IE

T

** Taz Devil **

I have just purchased the full version of TextPad and want
to change my default Internet Explorer text editor to
textPad, I have used the TXTP2000 on the TextPad site but
windows just keeps replacing the new Notepad.exe with the
old Notepad.exe, is there any entries in the registry that
would let me alter which text editor IE uses?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately there isn't a registry value that will do what you need.
If you want to get around the fact the Windows replaces the notepad.exe
file, you can disable Windows File Protection

Hi

In IE, in the menu, select Tools\Internet Options...

Go to the Programs tab, and see what is offered in the
"HTML editor" drop down list.

Hi

Disregard my first post, that will not have the effect
you want.

This is what I came up with from a Google newsgroup search:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

and

Changing Source Code Editor in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=163606

and

This automated script written by Bill James will do it for you:

Add New Internet Explorer 5+ Editor. Adds new editor to "Edit with" button
in Internet Explorer and as right click option for HTML files in Windows
Explorer. Additional option to set editor as default for "View Source".

Well notepad.exe is a protexted system file. If you want to use your version of notepad.exe then you will need to replace it in four places order matters.

C:\WINNT\ServicePackFiles\i386 (if there)
C:\WINNT\dllcache\i386
C:\WINNT\system32
C:\WINNT\
