Changing controller order in XP

I'm trying to make use of Madden '04's Playmaker ability which
requires the right analog stick on my Logitech Dual Action. This
works fine for single player.

But when 3 friends show up with 2 Logitech Wingman's and an AxisPad
Effects, we plug them all in and the 2 Wingman controller's always
take precedence over the Dual Action. The Wingman pads don't have a
right analog. I need my Dual Action as the 'primary', play-calling
controller. Setting it as the primary in the advanced controls
(Control Panel > Game Controllers) hasn't done a thing. I believe
that only works for old games anyway.

How can a force the primary to my Dual Action Pad? Is there a
registry hack? Anything? Thanks!

You are correct in the "Primary Controller" assumption. Only games that use
the "WinMM" calls use controller ID's. Games that use the more up-to-date
dinput calls just enumerate the devices on the system and then ask for data
based on devices present. It is up to the game to decide how to interpret
this data. There is no notion of any one controller being "more important"
than any other.

I just looked at the EA support site for this game. They suggest that if you
have a supported controller, which you do, and it isn't working correctly
then try the following:
1. Ensure you have the most current drivers.
2. Ensure the gamepad's dual analog axis is set to Gamepad, not Joystick.
This must be done for both sticks.

If neither of those help you should contact EA to see if they have any other
suggestions.
