controller install

I purchased a generic USB game pad (manufactured by Centruy Concept). It came with a floppy a simple instructions on how to install the driver and get it up and running. I've followed the directions, but each time I plug the game pad in XP doesn't recognize the device. It doesn't show up as a game controller in Control Panel, and under the HID icon in my Device Manager says its working properly. I plugged the game pad into my laptop running 2000 and it recognized it right away and it shows up as a game controller under my Control Panel. Where did I go wrong?

Hi ralamante,

Try disconnecting the game pad, uninstalling the software /
driver, rebooting and then connecting the game pad again.
If that's unsuccessful, please post the instructions that came
with the floppy and we'll see if it contains any clues. :)

OK, I uninstalled the driver, rebooted, and then plugged the game pad in -- same result. Error message says USB device not recognized. The instructions that came with the game pad say: 1. Run setup.exe from driver disk; 2. After installation has been finished, plug the Joypad in your PC USB Port. Then it says to do a button test by going into the Game Controller section of the Contol Panel. Since Windows does not recognize the pad when I plug it in, it of course does not show up in the Control Panel. Like I said earlier, the pad works in my laptop running Win2000 without even installing the driver. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Hi rtalamante,

Be sure to use the same method on XP as you did on 2000.
I've read some shoppers reviews at ebgames about that
company and they don't have a good rating, however you may
just need to update your Chipset Drivers for proper USB
support. http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/Video.html#v11
