changes at startup

2.4 P-4, running on a asus p4-533S with a st340014a barracuda HD, 440 MX
nVIDIA VIDEO CARD, 512 DDR build 2600 sp-2. When I restart my computer, it
starts with different desktoip, forgets my mail server settings, and seems
to be a different computer. When starting, it gives me the windows startup
screen the the monitor cuts off for a few seconds (goes into power-saving
mode), then starts with the wrong settings. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Try opening display,customize desktop,locate and chk the box,"lock desktop",
then close-out.Then go to run,type:Msinfo32 Hardware,problem devices,chk
the others for problems.You might also open ADM.,event viewer,open an
event/warning,click on the url for it,this opens help/support in xp,usually
with
a fix or answer.
