Change shell image preview to Office Picture Manager -- still notworking

Paul

I am reposting all of this since it has faded away. I guess there is no
easy answer.

================================

This is just for the "Open" verb. "Open" is still photoshop on my system
as it should be. I want the "Preview" verb action in the context menu to
be open in "Microsoft Office Picture Manager". I still don't have a
solution.

I looked at this article before I posted here. This is a tough set of
instructions, very terse and incomplete, almost experimental in nature.
I couldn't even find the key mentioned in my registry. You have to
reverse engineer windows practically to find what an application might
be called and where all the keys are. I'm a windows programmer and I
said forget this...

Replacing the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer Application Using the Preview Verb:

==== original post: ==============

I rebuilt my system and "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" is now the
image preview command in the windows explorer context menu. I don't like it.

How do I switch it back to using "Microsoft Office Picture Manager"?
This is the preview program the system was using before I rebuilt.

Both programs are available on the system and working ok, just want to
switch the preview in the windows explorer shell context menu for image
files.

I do not see your problem:, in Xp Pro Mce, I changed Jpg in Folder
options->File Types, adding "Preview" to the Open and Printto verbs present,
by browsing to
Mspaint.exe in \system32, just to see outcome. I set Preview as default (you
don't want to do that) and Paint is what happens. No registry change. Maybe
I am missing something here because I have no Office picture manager to try
it with.

I don't actually run XP -- I am using Windows Server 2003. I thought
that Windows Server 2003 'Windows Explorer' was just like the one in XP
so I posted to an XP group. (I've never seen the one in XP.) But my
explorer File Types dialog only has the 'Open' verb available. I can't
find any other verbs to add or set. Perhaps this is the problem. I
expected a lot more help in the XP group than in any w2k3 group for this
issue -- this is why I posted here.

The problem may be due to the explorer file type options being different
in w2k3, who knew? Extra verbs like preview don't seem to be present, or
I have really missed something.

Nevermind, I see what the problem is. If jpg is set to use Photoshop,
the 'Advanced' button doesn't appear in the file types dialog. You have
to click 'Restore' to restore the default association and show the
'Advanced' button. Then use 'Advanced' to reset the Open verb and edit
Preview. What I said about the UI different in w2k3 is nonsense.

WTF would it be present? If you refuse to read .... Ramesh didn't send you anywhere that mentioned File Types Dialog (though you can certainly do it there).
