Change name of home page

L

Lolly Harris

How do I change the name that is automatically given to the home page in
each web. Mine all got changed from index.html to default.htm when I
published them to my computer.

Is there some reason you would want to do this? You can change or add a
default home page file name in IIS admin, which is where FrontPage gets the
name from. However, again, this is not necessary. The important thing is
that IIS knows what the default home page file name is, and directs to that
page when there is no page file name in the Request URL.

It bugs me to have the home page listed as Index.html on the web and then a
different name in Frontpage.

Where do I find IIS admin? In ME I just clicked on the personal web server
and could make this change there. I could not find IIS in the control
panel.

There should be an option under the PWS to set the default document name
that you want, and it must be the first in the list. However this is really
not necessary as the FP extensions will automatically change it to what is
required on the server you are publishing to (when the server has the FP
extensions installed).

Do I have to change it for each web separately? I can do that in FP. With
the Personal Webserver there was a place that I could assign the home page
name and then every new web I started automatically had the name.

I don't use PWS anymore I have Windows XP professional and just want to know
EXACTLY where I can set the name of the home page. I went to where you
referred me but you stopped short of telling me the exact location where I
could set the name of the home page.
I searched all over and could never find anything that looked like the PWS
page to set the name of the home page.

I am sorry if I don't express my thoughts better. I guess you are a genus
and I am a dummy.

I don't care if it is not necessary. I am a redhead and I do a lot of
unnecessary things.

Open IIS MMC, right click on the Web Sites folder, properties, documents and
make sure the name you want to use is in the list, and is first.

Then in each current web, you would have to rename the current default
document, then Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks.

The sarcasm isn't necessary. I simply answered your question:

All you had to do was ask for the additional information and I would have
been happy to give it to you. However, Tom already has.

Or in your FP web just select the home page in Folder List and rename to the name on your server, then select it (right click) and
select Make it the Home Page
