change mouse

I have tried to install one cordless mouse, and one mouse with a cord. Both
times the mice worked after installing the software, but as soon as I turn
the computer off and then back on, the mice do not respond. I of course did
not try to install them at the same time. I now have a mouse hooked into my
USB drive, and it is working fine. I have an emachines computer. Windows
XP. How do I fix this problem?

Not sure how to fix, but it just happened to me too. I've had my
eMachine for about 2 weeks and my mouse just suddenly stopped working.
When I restarted, I got a message that No Mouse Was Detected... I tried
another mouse and it didn't work either. Since I had nothing to lose I
used my system restore disc and now my mouse works but is acting funky.
