During a power problem in my area that isp did not
recognize they had me change my connectiob speed from
about 52 to 37, My connection rae is too slow and I would
like to return to 52. HOW? PLEASE?

Call your ISP. BTW - a speed of 52kb is almost never going to happen. 37 is
very normal for dialup connections.

This reply is blatantly false. While there are numerous
conditions that go into getting a good connect speed such
as the condition of the lines in your area as well as the
type of modem you have it is quite easy with a little bit
of configuring to get constant connect speeds around 50 to
52. The biggest problem today are what are known as
Winmodems. These are modems that depend upon the software
in XP to run them. If you are over 20 miles from the modem
pool of your IP then their performance can seriously
degrade. I suggest the first thing to do is spend about
$100 cdn and get a controller(hardware) based modem. This
has it's own chip to handle all the modems functions. Then
learn all you can about your modem and do some testing for
MTU and TTL and BHdetect and so on. A great tool that is
free and actually works is SpeedXP. I am not associated to
any company and tested this tool out of curiosity by going
into the registry and manually messing up the settings for
the TCP\IP and SpeedXP reset everything I changed back to
maximum configuration for my setup. It even found one
setting I didn't know about and reset it. This resulted in
a 4KB\s boost in storage speeds(througput). Not much but
then every kb counts. That brings us to the true issue.
Connect speeds are not the real test of a connection;
throughput is. If you need more help with this e:mail me.
There is simply way to much to be done to insure high
connect and throughput speeds to put in one post. XP is
the easiest OS yet to optimize these settings. It just
takes some tweaking to get the most out of it. Keep
smiling.

Jeez......... relax dude. I never said you absolutly can't get 50 or 52. I
just said for many people 37 is normal. Some people never get 50 or above on
dialup no matter how much mtu tweaking you do. When I used dialup, about
three years ago now, I never got above 48. It's nice you posted all the
extra info on how better speeds can be acheived, but nothing I said was
false at all. Just cause you get 50 to 52 does not mean it is the norm,
especially for rural, remote areas of the country/world.
