Cell Protection Issue

Hi,

I am using Excel 2000. I have created a worksheet in which some of the
cells have validation lists. I have protected the worksheet and
unprotected the Validation cells so that when a user opens the sheet
and clicks one of the validation cells, a pick list will appear. This
works fine for myself and my collegues in my department.

I have emailed this workbook to an external agent to look at. He is
running Excel 2002 and is telling me that once he has opened the
spreadsheet and attempts to choose one of the validation cells, he is
presented with the ' The cell or workshhet you are trying to change is
protected....'

Has anyone seen this before or able to suggest why it i happening?
I am hesitant in providing the 3rd Party agent with the unprotection
password.

TIA

Are you sure the validation cells are unlocked?

In Excel 2000 and earlier versions, you can change the selection in a
data validation dropdown, if the list is from a range on the worksheet.

If the list is typed in the data validation dialog box, the selection
can't be changed.

In Excel 2002 and later versions, neither type of dropdown list can be
changed if the cell is locked and the sheet is protected.
