cell formats

I am still having problems with my cell formats. Here is what I am trying to do.

Column A to be formatted to show Date and time in 24hr format(12/11 08:00)
Column B to be formatted the same as column A
Column C to show the time elapsed between A and B e.g show 6hrs.
At the bottom of column C I want the total hours from all the cells in column C.

I will have 3 sets of the above on one spreadsheet and I will have a cell showing totals from all totals.
I cannot seem to be able to format the cells correctly. I think I have got it right then one of the cells display's strange results from the sum command.

Any help would be appreciated

Format the cell with the sum in it in col C using a custom format dd:hh:mm

The total time in col C might be say 125 hrs 30 minutes. Unfortunately,
Excel will not format that as 125:30, because it does not recognise that as
a time. If you want to use a time/date format the best is dd:hh:mm (as
above).

Alternatively, multiply your sum by 24 and format it as general.

Or format the SUM cells as [h]:mm
