CDROM isn't recognize -Code 19 XP professional

My (Gateway E-series)pc gave me this code 19 "Windows
cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information(in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged. (Code 19)". Gateway told me to reinstall
(repair) windows using my XP CDrom. when I tried to
reinstall, it wouldn't see my cdrom. So, I continued from
the c drive and Finally, I made it to the point on my
reinstall that told me "[Files Needed] The file 'Asms' on
Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed. Type the
path where the file is located, and then click OK.
Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386"

any suggestions?
