CD/RW wont format

I am having problems with my new Yamaha CD/RW drive.
When I first installed it I had no problems with it and
was able to read and write to it using Easy CD Creator.
I then had to reformat my computer at one time and it is
an upgrade from Win 98 to XP and I have all the patches
for XP and EZ CD creator for XP. Since then, I have
upgraded the firmware for the Yamaha CRW-F1 series,
changed DMA's and I can write to a CD, read from any CD
but if I need to fully format a CD, it does not allow me
to do that. It will only allow me to do a quick format
and the CD label is always Easywrite_1 and is not
changeable. Has anyone heard of this and do you know how
to fix it so I can fully format a RW CD? I have already
uninstalled, reinstalled Easy CD creator, reinstalled XP,
reinstalled my drivers, and have all windows updates.
Figure may be some setting somewhere.
Please help! Need to be able to format.

Hi Amy,

Have you tried what is suggested in this article?

http://www.roxio.com/en/support/kb/ecdc/eez000013.jhtml

They give several solutions to try. Specifically with CD-
RW, they suggest trying to format a CD-R and see if that
works... if so, they suggest it's probably the drive or
the CDs you're using which are the problem. If not, then
it could be the software. In either case, they give
suggestions for how to resolve it. Try this first (if
you haven't already) and let us know.

Hi Kurosh,

Yes, I have tried all the solutions provided by Roxio and
my CD Burner does format a CD-R disk with no problem. I
then emailed Yamaha on the 25th of September and have yet
to hear them. Have been to their troubleshooting pages
and even downloaded update firmware drivers. Since they
are not responding I guess I was hoping someone out there
had heard of this kind of problem. To be honest, here is
the really weird part...my business partner uses Windows
98 on his Dell which is two years old versus my Windows
XP and just installed the same brand new CD/RW drive and
his is now doing the same. Cannot figure what settings
have changed. Have changed DMA to PIO and all other
suggestions. Someone please help!! :}
