Help! I cannot use my cd drive. The event viewer refers to cd-rom 0 bad block event7.
Does this make sense to anyone? What can I do?

sounds like:
1. bad media or incompatible media
2. drive problem.... dirt, or just plain broke.

try a known good commercial pressed cd. maybe try blowing the drive out with some compressed air also, I've seen some nast dus bunnies grow in cd drives that only have fans blowing out of the case, alot of air comes in thru the cd drive along with dust, etc and it just grows.
If it;s an old drive, tho, the laser may just have weakened to the point it really can;t read the discs.
