Hi Susan,
Try reinstalling the drive:
Click Start / Control Panel
If you see Switch to Classic view in the left column click it
Click System
Click Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Expand the +DVD/CD-ROM drives branch
Right click the drive and Uninstall it
Reboot your computer for it to detect and reinstall the drive.

| I have a CD-RW and DVD drive (Drive D). The DVD works fine, but I am unable to play CD ROMS. When I put the CD in I get a message
saying that the PC is unable to detect a disc in the drive and it asks me to insert the disc and cancel or retry. When I explore the
drive, no disc is shown as present even though one is loaded. If I keep on taking the disc in and out I can occasionally get it to
work. I had this problem 6 months ago and it just went away. It has come back over the last week and I am concerned that I have a
real problem. I have cleaned the drive with a cleaner, but as it seems to be working OK with DVDs I think it is a software problem.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
