CDROM PROB

I have a CD-RW and DVD drive (Drive D). The DVD works fine, but I am unable to play CD ROMS. When I put the CD in I get a message saying that the PC is unable to detect a disc in the drive and it asks me to insert the disc and cancel or retry. When I explore the drive, no disc is shown as present even though one is loaded. If I keep on taking the disc in and out I can occasionally get it to work. I had this problem 6 months ago and it just went away. It has come back over the last week and I am concerned that I have a real problem. I have cleaned the drive with a cleaner, but as it seems to be working OK with DVDs I think it is a software problem. Does anyone have any experience of this?

DVD and CDRW combo drives have different lasers for the DVD side and the
CD/CDRW side. It sounds as if one of your lasers is either not working, or
not working correctly.

Do you have any CD/DVD specific software installed? What burner s/w do
you have installed or Video software? May be they require
updating/removing?
