tried to use the recovery consule but my administrator password is not

Thanks for your speedy reply. I've checked the references you gave
and sadly none worked. I had hopes that deleting the registry entry
UpperFilters would do it but the data isn't there. Two keys below
UpperFilters does exist but that key seems to be to do with drives in
general not specifically cd-rom.
I've tried safe mode, uninstall and system restore and now I'm out of
ideas apart from the floppy disk start up gamble.

I have the same problem that Kmac reported on 3/4/2006 that was
answered by otisdog and WTC.
Sadly in my registry the key described does not contain entries for
UpperFilters or LowerFilters so I can't delete them.
Having tried all else I'm wondering if booting from floppy disks
would work? I'm hoping someone can save me from such a desperate
attempt.
