CD ROM Auto Play - restore

Trying to help a relation, over the phone. (Win XP Home SP2)
Her CDRW Drive is recognised and is accessible using Windows Explorer.
Checking properties of the drive indicates that all is OK, however when any
CD is inserted, the window " Select an action" does not open.
Music CDs do not play, although "open with Windows Media Player" is selected
in "properties"
Is there a simple fix ?
TIA for any help.

Rt\click on CD icon in My Computer, Properties, Autoplay and tick the box.
