CD isn't recognized

I have the following problem:
When i try to burn a CD-R, my system doesn't recognize
inserted CD-R as CD-R. It tells me that i should insert
writable CD into drive, but it's already there! Similar
thing happens when i insert CD to other CD drive
(physical or virtual) - label, icon etc. are not
refreshed, but when i double-click on the item, it's
content is displayed properly, but still, the icon and
label remain wrong.
The only way to solve the problem is to reboot the
computer. Then all drives are scanned properly and i can
burn. But only one CD, because when i eject that one
(burned) and insert new one, the new one isn't recognizeg
and burning wizard tells me there isn't recordable CD in
drive.
Of course, i tried refreshing by pressing F5
and 'refresh' from the 'view' menu.

Any ideas how can one rescan drives or other way to solve
this problem (instead of rebooting, of course ;), please
reply to this message. I would be very grateful. :)

Try using real burning software like Nero or Roxio's Easy CD Creator
instead of the built-in burning capabilities of XP.

I think you have turned off the Autorun/Autoplay of the drive. It is
necessary to have this on, with Autoplay of a Blank disk going to 'Open
Writable CD folder in Explorer' if you are using the inbuilt burning
(And 'Mixed content' going to 'Open in Explorer to View . . .'). Even
then, it is usually better to wait for the burning wizard to ask, and
*then* put the CD in.

To check and restore Autorun/autoplay settings, get an unofficial
program by Microsoft which Mike Kolitz MVP has at
Http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

I had a similar problem in that when I inserted a CD it would not come
up with the label. (no problem recognizing a blank CD for burning).

If I rebooted, the label would be there IF the CD was In the drive
during the reboot.

No one could give me an answer. I ended up doing a system reinstal -
since I believed it was a reg entry that became changed when I used
some reg cleaning/organizing S/W.

If you find the reg entry that fixes it, post it - otherwise,
reinstall

Exact same problem here. Stupid cd rom/dvd rom/vitual rom just does
not refresh no matter what i do.
