CD Insertion Problem

On Windows XP, I have a CD RW drive and a DVD drive. Recently, whenever
I insert a CD/DVD, the system refuses to read the label and implies that the
disc is "blank"...coming up with options for a blank disc. This happens on
both drives. If I insert a music CD, and then use say Winamp to access the
drive, the music can be played correctly. ie the drives will actually read
the data OK. I suspect some registry problem, but what???

Problem seems to have been caused by some software for a USB "Bar"
device "U-Storage 2.0". On removing this software the problem was resolved!
U-Storage ran a task on start-up that looked for the connection of the USB
BAR device. Somehow it was interfering (or so it seems) with the more normal
process of loading CDs or DVDs.
