CD/DVD drive won't refresh

My Asus CD/DVD combo drive will not update the volume OR THE content
informaiton when I swap disks. I noticed this some months ago.

I reformatted my hard drive (for other reasons) and found that both of my
CD/DVD combo drives will not reflect the new disk (i.e. installing my
programs, WIN XP SP2 displays the volume name of the FIRST disk. The volume
name (preceding the drive letter) never changes when I insert other program
disks.) In addition, the displayed content from the FIRST disk remains. The
only way to clear the content is to eject the disk, F5, re-insert the disk.
The new CONTENT will display, but the VOLUME name never changes until I log
out of Windows.

This is particularly troublesome when playing DVDs.

Is a registry setting off? If so, anyone know what setting I need to check?

Running the Tweak UI is what STARTED the problem.

Also,
How would disabling the autoplay effect the refresh problem? It seems that
ENABLING autoplay would be the preferred option. Am I wrong?

Hi GEvan

This has worked for some people:

Open Regedit and navigate to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDrom

In the right-hand pane look for the value AutoRun and make sure it is
set to 1. If not, change, close Regedit and reboot.

Hope this helps.

It worked for me, had no adverse reactions at all, on my system, yours may
vary..?
You can re-enable the autoplay feature again if you wish, at any time.. If
the app doesn't help or you don't see a need for a specific tool, toss it..

To be on the safe side, before you try the app or any other for that matter,
that you may have your doubts about, backup your registry..

The above app is an effective way to backup the registry, look it over or
don't, your call..

Might also try Uwe Sieber's tool as an option, it seems very stable, and
worked like a charm too..
If you don't want to try it, don't by all means..

Try hitting the F5 key several times as suggested in the above link, may
help..?
Post your results..
Best of luck

It means on/yes. Note AutoRun is *not* the same as AutoPlay. . . if
AutoRun is off, Windows isn't notified when you change the disk in the
drive. If switching this on also turns on AutoPlay and you don't want
that, you can change the settings through the AutoPlay tab in the
drive's properties in My Computer.

Actually it was 'Nightowl' who gave me the best response (in Windows XP
Hardware.)
