CD/DVD Drive not Recognized

One day the CD/DVD drive suddenly disappeared from the 'computer' file found
when clicking on the start button. Geek Squad restored the appearance of the
drive by using a 'special disc' that they could/would not share with me.
After restoration of the CD/DVD drive, iTunes could not burn a CD, so I
reinstalled the latest iTunes (which is 7.3). After reinstalling iTunes, and
successfully burning a CD, everything is fine until I restart the computer.
When the computer reboots, the CD/DVD drive disappears.

I have determined that if I use 'regedit' and delete upper and lower filters
in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE100318}
then upon rebooting, the computer shows the CD/DVD drive; however iTunes can
not burn a CD.

Any suggestions for how to get the CD/DVD to be recognized and iTunes to be
able to burn a CD without one excluding the other?

Hi,

Because the entries that the iTunes software is creating, and the
accompanying driver files, are not fully compatible with Vista. Check with
them for updated software that is. This problem is classic for burning
programs that create and install incompatible driver files.

Thanks for the answer, Rick. You say, check with 'them' ...... who is
'them', iTunes or Vista?
