CD Driver

A 6 year old machine all of a sudden discovered the CD Player for the first
time and won't mount it to due a corrupted driver. I plugged in an external
CD Player, same thing.

It is attempting to use the standard Microsoft driver v5.1.2535.0 from 2001.
Can anyone tell me the name of the driver file so I can simply copy it from
another computer? OR How to find it for download online or from the XP CD?

I don't want to run Repair from the XP CD, even if I could, as I don't want
to make a small problem worse for this older Pentium IV. Thanks!

That is the version on this computer. It is running XP SP3.
How do you know that the driver is corrupted?

Device Manager claims that it is. I am not convinced, especially after
finding a post online that provides a registry entry deletion fixed that
helped out numerous others in the same situation. Will try the reg fix at my
earliest and post here on the results.

This fixed the problem:

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak"
"LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the
registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Delete the CD Player in Device Manager.

Reboot. When you login the CD player will be found and work.
