cd burning

My Windows XP does not copy files to cd-R or cd-RW. It
keeps asking to input a clean disc in the drive. When I
do that, the disc is not recognised and the system keeps
asking to input a disc ...
Does the disc has to be formatted first, by f.i.
EasyCdCreator? If I do that (using Direct CD) it works
well on my own system, but discs are not recognised on
other systems, even XP based.
How can I solve this?

Are you attempting to "Drag and drop" files onto CD ?. To do this you do
need to format the disk (using something like InCD). You can not format
CD-R's though, only RW's. To copy files to CD-R, you need a writing program
such as nero. Is this what you mean ?
