Go to My computer, put a CD in the drive and double click the CD-ROM to see
if it is working. If it opens, then you should be able to use the CD-writer.

All DVDs / CDs will be listed under the generic "DVD/CD-ROM drives"
section of Device Manager. XP will not add a separate section for
"burners" / "writers." Just expand the "DVD/CD-ROM drives" section
and look at each drive "detail."
