After installing XP, my CD burner/Player does not work. The door will not
even open. My computer freezes about every other minute until the light on
the CD door turns red. Then computer seems to work fine. Anybody any
suggestions?

De-install your CD ROM drive and reboot, XP will find it and reinstall on
reboot.

and don't install directcd or you'll be weeks fixing what it screws up.

Was this an upgrade or a clean install of XP? If it was an upgrade what CD
Burning software were you using?

First approach is to go to Device Manager and delete the drive, reboot and
let WINXP reinstall the drivers for the drive. If that dosen't work you
will likely require to download drivers from the CD Drive manufacturer and
install them.
