cd and dvd drives disappeared

Okay I have read and tried all the fixes to resolve this issue (cdgonem
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs) I still can't
get my drives back. I have disconnected the devices and reconnected to see
if windows will recognize new hardware. Nothing has worked Any more
suggestons?

Right click My Computer>Manage. On the left pane select Disk Management.
In the right pane select the CD/DVD drive. Right click and select Change
Drive Letter and Path. Assign a drive letter to the drive. P.S. Next time

There is no cd/dvd drive in right pane. Only my c and d drives are there.
Still cnnot get cdrom and dvd drives to appear? any other ideas?
