Can't see cd

Iam trying to fix a friends Dell Dimension 2400. The problem is The CD & DVD
drive don't show up in "My Computer". They show up in the "Bios" , "Device
Manager", and When I go to "Add Hardware" to add the drives I get a error
"code 19". I have downloaded "xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs" and I got the window that
the "CD DVD was fixed and ok to use". But nothing. Also "My Computer" shows a
"Floppy" and this computer don't have one. This problem started when someone
else tried to put the CD & DVD in this computer. I would appreciate all the
help I can get. Thank You Al Cassell

Do they work outside of Windows?
(Try booting from a bootable CD...)

Also check the BIOS to ensure you do not have a Floppy Diskette 'turned on'.

Yes they all work in other computers. The bios won't let me do anything with
a floppy. Iam also thinking it might be a Dell thing Thanks Al Cassell

Have you tried running Computer Management and assigning the drive a
letter?
