After installing the Cats 8.1. I've noticed a small white square on the
upper left hand corner when I'm on my windows desktop. Both in Vista OS and
Win MCE 2005.

Have anyone else noticed this?

I just installed it on a HD3870 this morning. So far all looks good. But
it feels a little different. Don't know what it is. I noticed some changes
in colors being used in some programs, like the number of unread messages in
Outlook Express, such as this news group. Its now red, instead of black. I
also noticed the channel number inside of my Hauppauge TV tuner card is
blue, instead of brown. Weird. I'll be running some games later tonight
to see if Crysis works OK, I was running a hot-fix version of drivers
before.

I'm interested in what this 3-D support across multiple monitors is all
about. Can I run Crysis on two monitors now? It boggles the mind. Talk
about taxing your system.

Well, I had a chance to run Crysis. Lost the red dot in the square thing on
top of the rifles, and the cross-hairs in the sniper scope. Not good. I
had Crysis re-detect the system and checked if that did anything for me.
And my dots and cross-hairs were back. But I also had my settings set at
medium, and no anti-aliasing. Not happy. So I tried setting everything
back to high. All was OK. Then I set AA to 2x -- no red dot or
cross-hair. So for now, either I get AA or I get a red dot and cross-hairs
in my scope, not both.

I have no idea why this is so. I'll play around with it some more later.
So those of you who play Crysis and loose your red dots and
cross-hairs - - - turn off AA for now. Or roll-back your CCC driver package
to the Crysis hot-fix until something is done at ATI about this problem.

Weird.

a.. Fix for problems with DirectX and Radeon AGP Graphics cards.
In other words still no love for the AGP 9X00 crowd???

I find it unconscionable (to say the least) that ATI/AMD along with their
video card manufacturing associates are actively producing, marketing and
selling numerous AGP cards while their last six or more Catalyst Driver
releases (since 7.5 for me) have had zero ability to function in 3D on my
systems and many others. My X1650 Pro AGP card will not do any 3D or Direct
X past the 7.5's on both systems I've tried it on. Ditto with the 9800 Pro I
used to have until recently. Installing the X1650 Pro with the latest
Catalysts when I first got it on my wife's Barton 3200 box required several
hours of my time and energy to get 3D function back. Rolling back the driver
to 7.5 and uninstalling the Cat's didn't do it. It was a major pain and
required a lot of digging and forum browsing as well as some Recovery
Console action. Sapphire and others are releasing an AGP version of the HD
3850 card. Will this be stuck with 8 month old ATI drivers also? If Omega
can get AGP function out of new Catalysts, why the hell can't ATI get it's
act together on this.

I have noticed the same thing. It is the systray of the CCC that has
now a visible window on screen. If you disable the CCC systray or exit
from it the small white square (2x2) goes away.

Ok, Maybe the next release will fix this.

I took that approach for the last 6 or 7 months but I've had it with ATI for
now. And up until recently, I was quite a loyal supporter. The hardware
might be great. But waiting month after month for basic functionality from
drivers for dozens of currently produced video cards plus the other CCC
issues I've run into is enough to turn me off.
