Cat 6.9 is out

The fact that .net is not part of the download does not imply that it's
not required. It's simply that this version requires you to get it and
install it spearately before installing CCC, while the larger version
includes .net in the download and [if necessary] installs it concurrently.

If you mean .net, you can get it without that on the official ATI
site.

Same size as in the links on that page you posted.

Dodgy.

You don't have to install CCC with any ATI releases. Choose Custom
installation and uncheck the CCC box. The older control version will be
installed instead.

Cat 6.9 is available.

You sure about that? I though control panel was gone forever.

This doesn't happen automatically. I think you have to manually browse over
to where the Control Panel installer files were previously extracted with an
earlier version of the drivers, and run setup.exe from there.

Of course, there's no reason to use the outdated Control Panel when ATi Tray
Tools offers more functionality without additional bloat.

So in other words it is NOT technically included.

Relying on residue left on my hard drive and then finding an old exe file
does not equate into it being installed with 6.9 right?

What the...

"Using the ATI Uninstall Utility to remove the display driver or Catalyst®
Control Center may result in portions of third party applications also being
uninstalled. Further details can be found in topic number 737-23277"

G

Gonzo

That is typical of ALL programs because some DLL files are shared by other
programs. If program A uninstalls xxx.dll and you run program B which also
requires it, program B will complain about it.

This is all very typical of most programs so it's not just ATi. The
WindowsXP installation method is not quite as advanced as everybody thinks
it is.

I've seen this before. I don't believe this is a "new in 6.9" bug... It's
likely from many Cat releases ago and has yet to be fixed but just recently
formally acknowledged and logged. Running the Cat uninstall utility might
remove other software if it uses registry keys that are named Ati or
something like that. Ati tool (not ati tray tools) seems to come to mind....

I just use the omega drivers version without the .net bloat.
There's some lag time between releases though.

I also have the problem that the last 9800 softmod Omega doesn't work
for me. It seems that no one else has this problem.

What are these Tray Tools you mention? Will they work with the All in wonder
9600 series? Where can I find them?

I have been having nothing but problems with the latest software. Have
uninstalled and reinstalled per supports instructions and nothing but
problems until yesterday they had me go back CCC 6.2 and MAC 9.06.1. My Nero
seems to be working right again but now every time I boot I get a message
that I am not authorized to change CCC and I cannot change my refresh rate
like before. I am tired of uninstall, clean registry, install!

Thank you.

Yes, it will work with the AIW 9600 series.

When I first installed CCC (required for Crossfire), a user "ASPNet" was
added to my system. Is "ASPNet" showing in your list of users?

I suspect that you don't have the latest version of .NET Framework (from
Microsoft). If this isn't present, the ATI software installs it, but
version 1.0 will create an "ASPNet" user (and one of the implications of
this is that you have to log on each time you start your system as if it
had multiple users, even if you are the only user). This was fixed in
the update to .NET Framework version 1.1.
