CAT 5.6 AIW 9000 trouble

Dell Dimension 8200
AIW 9000 (ATI brand)

yes, I did the .net install - and spent an hour researching the fine points
of un/install on the web

5.6 required the same pain to install as the previous catalyst versions
more pain actually since it never did install completely
* I only upgrade their drivers every 6 months *
used ATI's uninstaller along with 2 third party ATI uninstallers in the many
tries to get this to work

finally got the new video drivers working but none of the MMC / Control
panel / DAO
had the: ATISSERV errors, once they quit then the control panel will never
appear
click it and nothing happens

way too many hours spent fooling with this card's driver installs over the
past few years
I wonder how many of these cards were returned to the store in the first
week of ownership by those with less patience ?

it's coming out and I'm going haupphauge tuner w/hardware mpeg II and an
nvidia based video card

Lolo, are you using the ATI Software Uninstall Utility _instead_ of
uninstalling your previous drivers? Bad idea. Uninstall properly,
then reboot and use the Uninstall Utility to remove remnants. If you
were to comment that perhaps it's not well named, I'd have to agree
with you.

It's also a good idea to delete the ATI unpacking folder (usually
C:\ATI) after that.

I used the 5.6 for awhile on my 9600xt. Didn't like the net thingy, as it
would hang, when closing windows. Even upgrading from ms windows site, still
a hang...ending program window, dosnet....thingy. When back to 5.3
catylst...

my 2 cents

Yes, I have no intentions of relating to .net with anything but a
barge pole. But 5.6 is working fine for me with the Control Panel
rather than the Control Center and .net. No hangs or errors
whatsoever so far (only a few days, I must admit).

thanks for the info about 5.3
I'll try to find it - would like to get my tv tuner back up and running.

OK - I found 5.3 and it works great. But where is the "guide" - the tv
guide for setting up future recording ? Did ATI go to something called
Titan and kill off Guide ?

I haven't seen it on the ATI website or Guide+ website. I had to load
it from the CD disc that came with my X800XT AIW after I downloaded
and installed the drivers and MMC from the ATI website.
