Card reader doesn't read cards

I have a internal card reader that has worked fine for months.

Now when I put in a SD card Windows doesn't see any media inserted.

My card drives show up in Explorer, Device Manager says everything is OK.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the card reader but still no joy. The
SD
card is functioning fine on other PCs.

Only change is I switched from one USB printer (HP 97xx) to a Konica 2400W
laser printer. Uninstalled the old print driver then installed the new one.
New printer works fine.

You may need to update the driver. I had a similar problem where I could see
the drives but could not access the cards. Somehow my driver had been
changed.
Try this:
Open Device Manager
Locate and click the Universal Serial Bus Controller entry
Click the plus [+] sign to the left of it.
If you see Genesys Mass Storage Driver, you will need to update the driver.
Select Update Driver.
Select Install from a list or a sepcific location. Click Next.
Select Don't Search. I will Choose the driver to install. Click Next.
Select "USB Mass Storage Device" from the "Show Compatible Hardware" window.
Click Next to continue and follow the direction to complete the installation
of the new driver.

This worked for my reader. It may not work for yours but it is worth a try.
