Capture in DV-AVI mode produces choppy audio

I have a Panasonic PV-GS200 digital camcorder. When I capture video into
WMM2.1 in the DV-AVI format, the video quality is excellent, but the audio is
very very choppy. Capture in any other format produces good audio, but the
video is (understandably) nothing compared to the DV-AVI format. I really
want to work with the DV-AVI format as I don't want to compromise on video
quality.
I have a 1.7GHz processor, 768MB RAM, have installed Windows XP service pack
2. So, I don't think system configuration could be a problem. Please help!

Thanks.

More information on this. I tried a different software (www.muvee.com) to
capture video in DV-AVI format and got the same result. So, its not a
software problem I think.

Yet more information:
1. After I capture the video in DV-AVI format, WMM creates clips for me. If
I drop a clip on the StoryBoard and then play it, the audio is clear, but if
I play a clip itself, the audio is choppy as before.
2. If I save the completed project as a wmv, the audio is clear, but if as
DV-AVI, its choppy.
Does this indicate I don't have the correct codecs for DV-AVI? If yes, from
where can I get them?
Also, I used the TMPGEnc to convert the final .avi file into a MPEG-2 file
for creating an SVCD. But WMP couldn't play it saying the codec couldn't be
found. From where can I get it?

Thanks,
-Ritesh
