capturing dv-avi is choppy

I am using IEEE1394 to capture video from a Sony Handycam Digital 8. When I
capture in any other format (including the high quality wma), the video and
audio is smooth. When I choose dv-avi, it is captured very choppy. I think
I have the machine to handle it. While capturing, the processor only gets to
11-15%. I've noticed the same problem when using the Pixela Image Mixer
software that came with the camera. Is my avi driver bad or something? Is
there a different codec I could use? I just want to take my kid's program
and put it on a vcd.

Thanks for the help.

Capturing is more hard-drive intensive than CPU... tune up your hard drive -
free space and defrag... and turn off other apps.

If that's not enough try capturing with the WinDV utility (link on my
Digital Camcorders > Intro page).

Hello,

You can "tune-up" your drives by taking a look at the disk drive
tutorial and movie maker tutorial on my website....the disk drive section
was written for just this sort of occasion.

You should also note that you CANNOT defrag the free space on your hard
drive with any of the tools supplied with XP...you will need access to a
program like Raxco Perfect Disk (It has an unrestricted trial period of one
month) Perfect disk will get rid of the free space pockets on your hard
drive and will also defrag the files XP defrag will not....I can be fairly
certain when I say that after the first time you use it you will find a
large improvement in hard drive performance.
