Caption numbering w/headings

Would like to label figures using the chapter heading styles the graphic
falls within.--

You mean by using the "Include chapter number" feature?

Yes... I want figures that fall within Heading Style 1 to number with the
level 1 chapter number.... figures in Heading Style 2 to number with level 2
chapter number. For example... Figure 4.1-1 (within heading 1)... Figure
4.1.1-1 (within heading 2)
 
That's not possible. You have to select a specific level. FWIW, granularity
below Heading 1 is rarely a good idea.
