can'texecute any programs :-(

Hi

My win2K Pc now boots up without complaining about the active desktop
now I have done a "repair" reinstallation.

BUT all the other problems are still present.

1 al my icons on the desktop have the windows logo and name.lnk the lnk
file will not execute

Also the dialogue to select an app to run the file comes up for all the
apps that were previously in the system tray. These are again name.lnk

When it said select of browse I managed to get it to start the
command.exe in win/system.

Al the programs in the program menu are all name.lnk and will not run
(as is the control panel. )


I can run reg edit in command mode in safe mode.

I can access the drives from an other machine (a MAC ) and copy files
off.


What can I do to fix it. I have been chasie run the web but have no
answers so far.?

From a command prompt;
assoc .lnk
should return with
..lnk=lnkfile
If not
assoc .lnk=lnkfile

However I still can't run any exe's

This all comes from removing Norton Ghost 2001 from what I can see.

It seems to affect all users the same so I guess there is a problem in
the all users folder somewhere.

It looked like that might fix it. However I started a new install about
