can't watch MS webcasts

G

When I try to watch a MS on-demand webcast I get a message that says "MS IE
6.0 with SP1 and above is required to view the recording in Live Meeting
replay format.

When I bring up "About IE" the version is
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519. Next to "Update Versions:" it has
"SP2".

Do I have service pack 2 or not? If so why does the webcast site think that
I don't have SP1?

Thanks,

(Courtesey of MVP Mike Burgess) Several of these are known to cause the
problem:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?]: Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute". Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128
bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following Registry entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)"

Maybe this problem is related to another problem that I'm having. I recently
tried to view a video on msnbc.com and was told I had to upgrade to media
player 10 which I did. But then I still couldn't watch the video. I've been
going back and forth with msn support trying to figure that out. They've sent
me pretty much the same list that you have plus a lot of other stuff.

After upgrading to media player 10 I have been able to watch video from
every other site that I've been to except msnbc.com until this problem with
the ms webcast. I have exactly the same browser version at work and don't
have the problem.

The one on your list that wasn't on msn's list was number 2. When you say
"some sites cannot detect the 128 bit encryption" maybe that would explain
why I'm having trouble with only these two sites (that I know of so far).
Except I would certainly think that since both sites are run by Microsoft
that wouldn't be a problem.

The other thing on your list that was not on the msn list was number 8. How
do I know if the key is corrupt?

Thanks,

I'll try that this weekend. I did try turning off my firewall (Norton) and
Spysweeper briefly but I still wasn't able to watch videos.

Disabling the firewall and SpySweeper doesn't undo the settings in each that
