I have just bought a brand new laptop (Hewlett Packard G6050 EG). I'm
currently
living in Germany, so I bought it from a local department store. I
completed the Windows/MSN EULA during the first boot of the computer, but I
still receive this message that Windows applications may not work because I
may be a victim of pirated software (which is absolutely ridiculous). I have
yet to be able to access my Control Panel, Standard Programs or any other
Windows-related applications outside of right after the first boot. So I've
done what is prescribed on the Verification page, did a disk clean-up, and
there are no corrupted files or anything like that. I've also tried to reset
my computer's settings it tells me I can't due to a corrupted file, yet I
already know this isn't the case due to the disk clean-up and anti-virus
scan. The main thing I get is a "defect data" message when AIM starts up
when I turn my computer on. But even after having uninstalled AIM, I still
had the previously described problem.
I am currently living in a student dorm here, and using their server, could
this be one of the reasons why I'm having this problem? (that is, because I'm
not using one of the internet services "strongly suggested" by MSN or HP?) I
ask because as I just mentioned, I was able to access all the windows
programs up until the point where my computer was granted access to the
dorm's internet, after that all I've gotten is these messages about pirated
software.
This is getting quite irritating, especially since I've contacted both
Microsoft and Hewlett Packard about this problem and no one responds.
I'd appreciate any help or advice offered!
