Can't "upgrade" windows xp!!! :(

MY computer used to have windows NT on it, i hated it so i took it into a
store to have them change it. they did alright, and it turned out my copy of
windows xp professional edition was "pirated"!!!! so today i bought windows
xp home edition update thinking that installing it would get rid of
everything else and i paid alot for it.
yeah when i click install it says "setup cannot upgrade your current
installation to windows xp. your current installation of windows is not
supported path. setup cannot continue."
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!

Because you're trying to install an upgrade version. Take it back to the
store and buy the FULL, retail version.

You can not upgrade from XP Pro to Xp Home. You will need to do a clean
install.
A clean install can be achieved using the XP Home upgrade CD. When asked for
a previous operating system during installation simply insert your Windows
NT CD (or 98/me) in the drive and point setup to it.
Back up all important data before attempting this as it will all be lost.
